2023 Tour de France: Philipsen achieves his third victory and Wengegaard remains in the leade

2023 Tour de France

Philipsen is stunning in the sprint, and Wengegaard stays ahead

Jasper Philipsen achieved his third victory in the 110th edition of the Tour de France cycling competition, after finishing the seventh stage in first place.

While the Danish champion, Jonas Vingegaard, retained the yellow jersey and the lead in the overall standings.

The 25-year-old Belgian had previously won the third and fourth stages of this edition, and he raised his total score to 5 victories in the famous French Tour, in which he is participating for the fourth time (he did not finish the 2019 edition and ranked 109 and 91 in 2021 and 2022).

🎙️ Cavendish " was really strong. I would also have loved to see him win, I think everybody [would] be."

As was the case in his first two victories, Phillipsen appeared the fastest again in the speed stages (Sprint), which was this time for a distance of 170 km between Mont-de-Marsan and Bordeaux, deprived Britain's Mark Cavendish of winning his thirty-fifth stage in this circumnavigation and being alone with the record he currently shares with Belgian Eddy Merckx (from 1969 to 1975).

Phillippen advanced at the final speed over Cavendish and Eritrean Biniam girmay, who finished third, while Vingegaard came in 22nd place, but tied in timing with his direct chaser, Slovenian Teddy Bogachar, who came in 25th place, and third in the overall ranking, Australian Guy Hindley, who finished in 21st place.

Thus, Vingegaard remained in the lead that he snatched Thursday from Hindley, 25 seconds ahead of the second Bogachar and 1.34 minutes ahead of the Australian.

On Saturday, the riders will take on the 201km Libourne-Limoges stage, which will be moderately difficult to climb.
